Helix Nebula H OH O.jpg

NGC 7293 Helix Nebula

The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula about 700 light-years away. It is at a declination of -20 degrees, so fairly far south for European observers and therefore low in the sky with a long atmospheric path.

It is a bi-colour image, in H-alpha and O-III narrow-band: the Helix Nebula has almost no emission from S-II.
