NGC 6992 Eastern Veil Nebula

The Veil Nebula is a large supernova remnant, with several visible parts. This is the Eastern part, NGC 6992; there is also a Western Veil Nebula and Pickering's Triangle which form parts of the expanding shell. It is thought to be about 1500 light-years from the Earth and exploded between 5000 and
8000 years ago. 

Where it is in the sky:

This object is part of a much larger nebula, the rest of which is above and to the right of the part shown in this image. The whole thing is close to the star Aljanah, in the right wing of the Swan, Cygnus, but is too faint to be seen with the naked eye.
